It’s always such an honor when total strangers are willing to entrust me with the last momentos they have to cherish a loved one gone too soon. I love working with the family to create a keepsake they can love forever. Some want a quilt that looks just like the person who’s transitioned. My first client’s father wore plain Hanes t-shirts in red, navy & heather grey with Wrangler denim jeans. If it was chilly, he’d add a thick flannel. She wanted her quilt to look just like him when she saw it. One of my next clients wanted a more modern aesthetic to compliment the decor style of her home. We went with a lot of white negative space and modern arrow shapes for her dad’s plaid shirts. A third client’s father in law loved Hawaiian print shirts and mid-century mod decor so we chose solids with a vintage vibe and an improv curved design to let the large floral prints stand out. There’s always a perfect pattern waiting to honor a loved one and it’s my privilege to partner with my clients to determine the best option for their project.
My latest commission to be finished is a 4-patch memorial quilt using plaid button down shirts in a diagonal setting.
